Before you start adding plugins onto every track in your mix, you should consider your mix bus signal chain first. Mix bus processing affects the mix as a whole. Making subtle tweaks across the whole mix before you start micromixing can help you make lots of progress very early on. It’s rewarding and will help to guide your decisions through the mix.
In this video, we’ll jump straight into a session. The static mix (level balancing and panning) is already done in this video. I’m going to use three plugins on the mix bus. There’s no right and wrong to this, but generally, these are the three plugins that I’ll use on most mix busses. If you’re not sure what your mix needs to start it off, I recommend considering processing your mix bus using some, or all of these three types of plugins.
